News from JKPC

Dear Friends,

At its meeting Sunday evening, our Session suspended all activities at John Knox through the end of March. This action covers all gatherings of John Knox Presbyterian Church, John Knox Kindergarten & Parents’ Day Out, Greenville Chin Presbyterian Church, as well as meetings and activities by guests and outside groups.

Though our gatherings have been suspended, our ministry has not! We plan instead to find creative ways to invite members, friends, and guests of John Knox to continue to share as fully as possible in life and ministry.

Worship: We plan to worship together on Sunday mornings—just electronically! Look for a message later this week for details about how you can share in worship with family, friends, and visitors.

Spiritual Growth: Don’t waste the gift of a freed-up schedule! Look for communication soon from John Knox offering opportunities for shared Bible study and devotional reflection.

Outreach: Our food collection project for this month is continuing! Help us Move a Mountain in March by dropping off your canned goods and food items in the collection bin under the covered drive-through at the Sanctuary entrance. And we will share other opportunities for serving our community in the days ahead.

Care for Others: We hope you will share with the church office any need that you have or hear about. Our pastors are keeping their regular schedule of care, responding as needed to any hospitalization, illness, or crisis. Our Nurture Committee and its caring ministries are organizing to contact those who might need a special touch. If anyone needs an errand run or some items from the store, we are ready to offer that help: please just call and ask!

Daily Operations: At this point we cannot know how long our schedule will be altered, but we plan to communicate clearly and often with you about how we are responding. Our ministry staff is active, engaged, and ready for the challenge. While we may not always be working on site, we are all responding to this new situation with energy and creativity—open to God’s fresh insight and constant grace.

Church buildings are not open for use except for limited use by staff: thank you for understanding! We are using this time to clean, disinfect, and secure the facility, so that it will be ready for us when we resume our regular schedule of worship, fellowship, and ministry.

To contact us, as always, please be in touch by phone or email with the church office or a particular member of the staff. If you do not get a live voice, please leave a voice message; we will be checking and responding regularly. If there is a pastoral emergency, please call one of the pastors directly: David Howell (864) 414-8491 or Gordon Turnbull (864) 423-2820.

A Closing Word: I am grateful for the leadership and vision of our Session and ministry staff. I invite each of us to see this season as a rich opportunity to grab hold of the Good News and to serve our neighbors with Christ’s love. Each of us has been called into service for this time, and so I offer you this scriptural encouragement from 2 Timothy 1:7: “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Take care of yourselves, take care of each other, and please join us in mutual prayer for God’s protection, care, and blessing.

Faithfully yours,

Gordon Turnbull
